Summer Entertaining Guide 2008

Summer is a great time to entertain. Sunshine, great beef recipes and good friends turn every day into a celebration! Plenty of summer holidays help, too. From Father's Day to graduation parties, weekend cookouts to summer birthdays, we have everything you need to make sure you'll meet all your customers' summer entertaining needs.

  • Father's Day  

       

    • Try a promotion like Beef Backer Award Winner Johnnie's Foodmaster did. Place paper and pencils, along with an entry box, in your meat department. Encourage children to enter their fathers in a sweepstakes to win a family pack of steaks by writing 3 reasons why their dad is the greatest. Call it something like "The Greatest Dad" Sweepstakes, and allow entries from the day after Mother's Day, Monday, May 12 through Saturday, June 7. Announce the winner(s) Sunday, June 8, the week before Father's Day.
    • Sweeten your Father's Day ads with the quick and easy recipe for Pineapple Soy Glazed Steaks.  Or spice things up with Grilled Herb Mustard Steaks.
    • Don't forget to make the helpful Father's Day handout available to your customers. It's full of recipes for the top Father's Day cuts and tips for including the kids.

 

  • Cookouts and Graduation Parties
    What goes with friends, family, and grilling? Beef!
    • Stock your meat department with grilling essentials like aprons, kabob skewers and metal grilling tongs and spatulas! 
    • From appetizers to salads, beef is multi-purpose, solving every summer entertaining dilemma. Use a cool salad recipe like Grilled Asian Beef Salad with Flank Steak or heat up your ads with Asian Beef Kabob Appetizers that use Sirloin Steaks. Either way, your customers will be thankful that beef is so versatile!
    • Don't forget the customer grilling handout! It now includes gas grill timings for your customers' favorite grilling cuts.
    • Burgers are the number one grilling item. Stock essential items like different varieties of burger buns and exotic cheeses, as well as the traditional favorites: ketchup, mustard, A.1.® Steak Sauce and potato chips near your ground beef section.
    • Have your associates bring in their favorite burger recipes. Post the recipes throughout your meat case, to give customers ideas for their own creative burgers! Or, check out the new burger recipes in the Beef and Veal Ad Planner. They're sure to get creative juices flowing!
    • Be sure to remind your customers that ground beef needs to be cooked to an internal temperature of 160°F.
    • Have your customers bring in a photo of their new grad receiving their diploma! Allow them to enter a drawing for a family pack of burgers or steaks by putting their name and contact info on the back and dropping it in a box in your meat department. Be sure to let them know if you will or will not be returning the photo. Choose the winner at the end of June, or choose one winner each week during the month!
